As a multi-purpose facility, the Metrodome features a large, fast playing surface. Don't fret for lack of the long ball, its covered top allows plenty-a-ball to find its rightful home in a lucky spectators hands. Opened for the first Twins regular season game on April 12th, 1982, the Metrodome has been home to both the Twins and the Vikings from that day on. Aside from the inflatable roof spanning over 10 acres and a 23-foot tall right field wall dubbed "The Hefty Bag" or "the Big Blue Baggy" by players, there's not much to distract the eye once you're inside the dome.
During big games this place is loud. So loud that it has set record levels for crowd noise and earned the nickname "the Thunderdome." For the most pleasant views of the game stick to the sections surrounding home plate. The dome was designed for football as well, so some of the seats can leave you watching the entire game with your head at an angle.
Hungry? Keep your eyes open for the beer-and-brat concessions down the lines on the main concourse. Grab a local favorite Gluek Golden, a long-time favorite for beer drinking Twins and Vikings fans.
Parking can be tough, depending on attendance. There's little parking available on the streets surrounding the dome. Surface lot parking may be available adjacent to the dome. There's only one parking ramp located within a block of the dome. If you don't get into the surface lot or the nearest parking garage, you might have a bit of a walk ahead of you after you park.
The Metrodome has seen its share of power-hitters, post-season games and World Series games, so grab some friends, family or co-workers, get your Minnesota Twins tickets and root on the A's in 2007.
