It was built for the Raiders and football so there's plenty of room at a baseball game. The Coliseum opened in 1966 and it didn't take long before the Oakland Athletics were lured away from Kansas City to play their first official game in the Coliseum on April 17th, 1968. The Coliseum is massive and round, and while it may not be the ideal place to watch a baseball game, you didn't hear fans complaining when Canceco, McGwire and Weiss helped to lead the A's to three consecutive league titles or in 1989 during the "Bay Bridge" sweep of the Giants.
