With youngsters immerging from the Pirates Minor League efforts 2007 will find Pittsburgh trying to improve on their mark in the NL Central pennant race. Any Pirates fan headed out for a game at PNC Park should take a look at our "Fan's Guide to the Game" below.
Wow! Located along the shore of the Allegheny River PNC Park boasts one of the greatest scenic backdrops in the League. Adjacent to Federal Street PNC Park offers awesome views of the downtown skyline and riverfront.
Access is easy via the Roberto Clemente bridge from downtown areas and pedestrian and riverboat access is also available, which makes getting to the game a cinch.
PNC Park was built with the intimate stadiums of Forbes Field, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park in mind. It is the only ball park built out of a two-deck design since Milwaukee's County Stadium in 1953. The highest seat in the Park is only 88 feet from the field, so you know any seat in the house is a good one.
Plan on eating at the game. There are several places to eat at or near PNC Park. Outback in the Outfield features steakhouse food and a party deck that overlooks both the field and the downtown area. How about some barbecue in the outfield run by former Pirate Manny Sanguillen?
After you eat be sure to stretch out your legs on the outdoor river terrace or along the outdoor river walk. You can also find everything from coffee to pizza at the ballpark's retail areas along the Federal Street and General Robinson Street corridor.
Once inside get ready for a spectacular view of the game, the Pittsburgh skyline, Roberto Clemente Bridge and one of the nicest stadiums in the league. The massive steelwork and light show of the left field scoreboard ads to the feel of baseball's past. From left-center to right field Pittsburgh's downtown skyline steals the show. In right field the out-of-town scoreboard makes up the wall and is in play, which makes for some pretty unique photo opportunities. With a lot of green paint, brick, and steel to heighten the look of the old days, fans are easily connected to baseball's wonder-years when attending a game at PNC Park.
There's a lot of room for the Pittsburgh Pirates to flourish in the NL Central this season, so grab some friends, family or business associates, head out of work early, and get down to PNC Park for a game or two in '07.
