Chicago's first professional team the white stockings started play in 1871 at Union Grounds. Durng the nineteenth century they were home to 3 different teams and played at different ball parks including 23rd street grounds, lake front park and west side park. During that time most balls hit over the left field were considered ground doubles. In 1884 it was converted over to home runs led by Ned Williams which held the record until it was broken by the one and only Babe Ruth. In 1893 the White Stockings changed there name to the Chicago Cubs and moved into the west side grounds. They would spend the next 23 years there. In the first decade of the twentieth century the park was home to the Chicago Cubs dynasty led by pitcher Mordecai Brown and Frank Chance.

The Chicago Cubs won a share of pennants that included four of them and 116 wins in 1906. This record stood for 95 years until the Seattle Mariners tied that record in 2001. In the year 1914 the big league ball club called Chicago Wales of the outlaw federal league began to play. The stadium which cost $250,000 dollars was named Weegham Park bought by the Chicago Cubs and moved into the park which is Wrigley field today which was purchased by William Wrigley Jr in 1918. The west side grounds was home to The Chicago Cubs from 1893-1915.

The more Current Chicago Cubs on Sept 17 the cardinals were celebrating after winning the central title from the cubbies. The Cubs were on the outside looking in and failed to make the playoffs after a magical 2003 season in which they were five outs from a world series. After that they had a sub par year at 79-83 that season. The 2005 season wasn’t a total flop National League leader in home runs and average Derek Lee had a breakout season. Despite plenty of expected changes for 2006 the Chicago cubs have an outstanding group returning including Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Michael Barret and Prior to name a few.
